In recent years the term "BitTorrent" has become synonymous with "media piracy," but the service does have a number of practical applications that can make life easier. BitTorrent PRO is a type of peer-to-peer network, meaning that computers directly connect with one another to share files back and forth. This eliminates the need to upload a file to a secondary Internet server in order for people to download it. Using BitTorrent PRO, you can quickly and efficiently connect directly to a user's computer to get the file.
Downloading
BitTorrent Pro is a freeware program, meaning that the full version of the program is available at no cost. Its installation file is a small file you can download. Once installed, you can search the Internet for a "torrent" file you wish to download. A torrent is a small computer file (usually no more than a few KB) that contains instructions on how and from where BitTorrent Pro should download the actual file to your computer. After you download a torrent, open that file using the BitTorrent Pro software, and the downloading process begins.
Seeders
BitTorrent technology operates by downloading small parts of a file from many different users at the same time. This is how BitTorrent is able to consistently transfer files at such high speeds. Two terms are used to describe users sharing files via BitTorrent technology. The first is "seeders." A "seeder" is a person who has the completed file on his computer. BitTorrent PRO connects to as many of these seeders as possible at the same time in order to download the file as quickly as possible.
Leechers
The other term used to describe someone using BitTorrent technology is "leecher." Leechers have a partially completed copy of a file on their computer. These people, like you, are attempting to download a file from the Internet. Despite the fact that they do not have the completed file, BitTorrent PRO can still download to your computer whatever parts of the file they do have. Using a combination of seeders and leechers, BitTorrent PRO can download little portions of the file at low speeds from a lot of different places at the same time. This makes the overall downloading go quickly while using as little bandwidth from individual users as possible. It is not uncommon for BitTorrent PRO to download many different parts of a file from hundreds of users at the same time. While the individual connections may only be operating at speeds of 1 KB a second, the overall file download with all of these connections added together can easily exceed 1 MB a second if BitTorrent PRO is connected to many seeders and leechers at the same time
Loading a Torrent
Once you've downloaded a torrent file from the Internet, simply open BitTorrent PRO by clicking on its icon on your desktop. Once opened, select "Open Torrent" from the "File" menu. Select the torrent file from your hard drive and click the "OK" button. You will be asked to specify a directory where you'd like the actual file to be downloaded. Select a folder that you have easy access to and click "OK." The file will begin downloading from any seeders and leechers (also referred to as "peers") that the program is able to connect to. You can monitor the download progress using BitTorrent Pro's status bar. When the status bar reaches 100 percent, the file is completely downloaded and can be accessed.
Legality
It is important to note that, while BitTorrent technology is legal, it is widely used to download copyrighted material. A number of sites provide torrents that feature virtually nothing but illegally copied and distributed works such as movies, television shows, video games and even books. Using BitTorrent Pro can be a great and easy way to share files from one computer to another, but do not use it to engage in illegal activities.
