How to block pop up windows

Pop-ups are a forms of Internet advertising with a purpose to increase or attract traffic to a particular Web site, product or service. During or after visiting a Web page, a pop-up typically opens one or multiple browser windows. Internet Explorer 7 and 8 support pop-up blocking. If you use previous versions of Internet Explorer or a different Web browser, Yahoo and Google offer toolbars that have pop-up blocking features

In Internet Explorer 7 or 8

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the menu "Tools" and "Pop-up Blocker."
  3. Click "Turn On Pop-up blocker" to activate pop-up blocking.
  4. Click the menu "Tools" and "Pop-up Blocker." Then click "Pop-up Blocker Settings."
  5. Select the blocking level (low, medium or high) using the drop-down box. Note that the medium level is appropriate to block the majority of pop-ups.

Using Yahoo Toolbar

  1. Navigate to the Yahoo toolbar.
  2. Click "Download Now" and then "I agree" to accept the license agreement and start the installation.
  3. Restart your Web browser when the toolbar installation is completed.
  4. Click on the button "Pop-up Blocker" on the Yahoo toolbar to toggle between blocking "On" and "Off."
